Follow hotel revenue to cash.
A practical starting point for separating an earned sale, an expected collection, a payment receipt and cash settled to the bank.
Define the period and source coverage.
Choose the property, currency, business timezone and reporting cutoff. List the PMS, outlet, payment, OTA, corporate, bank and ledger sources needed for the question. Missing coverage remains explicit; a convenient export is not necessarily a complete population.
Separate the different records.
Earned revenue, guest deposits, receivables, verified receipts, clearing balances and bank settlement answer different questions. Retain the original reference and timing for each leg. A payout total alone cannot explain every underlying sale, fee, refund or outstanding amount.
Match on the same basis.
Compare equivalent property, room/stay period, currency, gross/net basis, fees and transaction population. Allow for documented timing differences. Do not describe every unmatched entry as lost revenue; investigate the source and cause first.
Give each exception a next action.
Record the amount and currency, supporting evidence, responsible owner, next update and the result that would resolve it. Separate an action requested from a confirmed outcome and from money actually received.
Review the continuing benefit.
After the first cleanup, decide which recurring checks and owner decisions are useful. Include delivery, support, recovery and manual effort. A count of closed exceptions is not proof of cash recovered or savings caused by the service.
